Elizabeth A. Houts

Liz is an associate at the New Orleans office and practices in the areas of insurance coverage, insurance defense, and bad faith.

About

Prior to joining the firm, Liz worked in the General Liability section at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith, LLP’s New Orleans office. She handled a range of civil litigation matters including defense of motor vehicle collision cases, premises liability, personal injury, and hurricane claims.

Earlier in her legal career, Liz managed the Third Party Contracts division of the nation’s largest infrastructure project, where she negotiated and drafted utility relocation, real property, and other contracts with utility providers, cities, counties, state and federal agencies, and railroads to enable the construction of the California high-speed rail system.  Liz also clerked with a boutique plaintiffs’ firm specializing in employment law. There, she honed her litigation skills drafting civil complaints, motions, briefs, written discovery, and other litigation documents, and also assisted with depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials.

Before joining the practice of law, Liz gained nearly a decade of real estate industry experience, including marketing, sales, and property management.

Liz earned her law degree from Tulane University in 2016, with certificates of advanced study and training in mediation and alternative dispute resolution. While in law school, Liz was a founding member of the first

law school chapter of the Federal Bar Association, and served as its President for her 2L and 3L

academic years. Liz was also heavily involved in the moot court program, both as a participant and a

coach on the Tulane Law George Mason Moot Court Trial Competition Team. She also won first place

in the trial division of her class’s “1L Open” Moot Court Competition and the Tulane Law School Intraschool ADR Competition. Additionally, Liz served as a student practitioner in Tulane’s Criminal Litigation Clinic. Liz graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts from Juniata College in 2005.
