Katie practices in the firm’s commercial litigation group, with a focus on insurance defense.

ABOUT

Katie is a commercial litigator.  Currently, her practice focuses on insurance defense and general commercial disputes.  Prior to joining Pipes Miles Beckman, Katie practiced commercial litigation with a focus on the energy sector for a well-established local defense firm.  There, she represented oil and gas corporations in a wide variety of matters including contract disputes, toxic tort litigation, class actions, expropriation of land for installation of pipelines, and numerous oil and gas cases of all kinds. She later served as in-house counsel for an oil and gas service company.

  • Represented major energy company in a high profile 42-inch natural gas pipeline project, including prosecution of expropriation suits, involving the preparation of numerous instruments and documents, close coordination with a team of engineering, land, survey, and other professionals in various aspects in the acquisition efforts as well as the successful trial of multiple expropriation suits in various parishes.

  • Represented an oil and gas production company in a multi-day arbitration brought by landowners seeking an increase in the valuation of overriding royalties; all claims were dismissed. 

  • Part of the litigation team that handled thousands of depositions and court appearances while defending a major oil company in the damages phase of a class action litigation.

  • On writ of certiorari to the Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, succeeded in securing the dismissal of claims for defamation and malicious prosecution against a major oil company.

  • Obtained summary judgment that defeated a putative class action involving more than one million claims on behalf of the world’s largest data storage and protection company.
